Privacy Policy

Line It Up runs the 40 yard dash tournament and the Line It Up app (app.lineitup40.com and the mobile apps). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it plain because that is how we would want to read it.

What we collect

  • Account. Your email address and a password, used to sign you in. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us.
  • Age group. When you create an account we ask for your birth month and year and keep only your age group from that answer (13 to 17, or 18 and over), never the month or year. See Age below.
  • Profile. What you add yourself: your first and last name, your hometown (city, region and country, chosen from a list), your date of birth (we store the date and work out your age from it, so your age stays right over time), your division, and an optional profile photo.
  • Event entries. Registration collects your name, email address, mobile number, home city, event city, age and division, along with your registration choices and status. A timed 40 or a video is not required to register. Training and evidence videos are separate, optional features.
  • Results. Your times, your place in a bracket, and whether officials approved a time as official.
  • Usage. Basic, aggregate taps and views inside the app (for example how many people opened registration). These are counts, not a browsing history tied to you.

    • What is public

    Line It Up is a public competition, so some of what you give us is public on purpose. Anyone, signed in or not, can see:

  • Your name, city, division and your official times on the public board, the bracket, the record book, the live watch page and shareable result pages.
  • Your age group, such as 30s or 50s, which is what the age standings are built from. Your exact age is not published.
  • Whether you won, and any champion or fastest of the day credit.

    • Never public through discovery or competition pages: your email address, mobile number, exact age, date of birth, password and private entry videos. Entry videos are stored privately for authorized officials. This is separate from photos or clips you choose to share in Community.

    Official competition results are public. Community actions require a signed in account. Public event and club information helps other runners find a session; private conversations are limited to the people with access.

    How we use it

  • To run the tournament: officials review entries, set the field, time runs, and post brackets and results.
  • To run your account: sign in, show your entries and results, and send you entry decisions.
  • To improve the app using aggregate usage counts.

    • If you enter an event, your name, city, division, age group and official results can appear on competition pages, in the venue and on stream. Contact details, date of birth and entry videos stay private. Sharing Community content is separate from submitting an entry video.

    LIU Community

    Everyone with a Line It Up account is part of Community. When you finish your profile, you are added to Community automatically, and other signed in runners can find your Community profile by searching: your name, photo, city, age group, handle and anything you choose to add, such as a bio or social links. Your email address, mobile number, exact age and date of birth are never shown. You can turn this off at any time in Community settings with Let runners find me. When it is off, people who are not your friends cannot find you, message you or invite you, and your friends and the people in your groups, clubs and events can still see you.

    Community stores your profile choices, optional social links, friend requests, accepted friendships, club and group memberships, event plans, RSVPs, check ins, messages, chosen photos or videos, meeting pins, notification preferences and reports. If you set up a runner card, it shows your cover photo, card color, short bio, the clubs you choose to show and, if you choose, a verified result from a Line It Up event. Updates you post about workouts, goals or training are shown to your friends, or to Community if you choose, and you can edit or delete them. Your Firebase account ID keeps this information associated with the right person even when two people share a name. Phone numbers, email addresses and dates of birth are not used in public discovery.

  • Visibility. Your profile can be found by other signed in runners unless you turn off Let runners find me. Your name on competition pages inside the app, such as the board, the bracket and the watch page, can open your Community profile when it can be found. Accepted friends, members of shared groups or clubs, and people involved in your event can still see the identity needed for those interactions. Club names, pictures, social links and public meeting details are available for discovery. Host approved highlights are visible to Community beyond the original event participants.
  • Conversations and invitations. Any runner who can find you can send you a message request, and your friends can message you directly. A message from someone who is not your friend waits as a request until you accept it, decline it or block them. You can limit messages to friends only with Who can message me. Runners who can find you can also invite you to a group, club or event; nothing changes until you accept. Group invitations do not grant conversation access until accepted. Group and crew messages, photos, videos and shared pins are available only to members who currently have access. Blocking, leaving or removal changes access. Messages are stored in Firebase and protected by access checks; they are not end to end encrypted. Members can still copy or capture content they can view. Direct messages and private groups are only for runners 18 and over; runners 13 to 17 use crew chat and the Board.

    • Events and safety. Hosts can manage their event, see the attendee and wait lists, send updates and remove access where supported. Officials can review reports, restrict Community access and close events when necessary. Blocking and reporting tools are available in Community.     Speed IQ and our AI provider

    Speed IQ answers your training questions and reads your form from video you choose to upload. To do that, the question you ask, the recent messages in your coach chat, your training answers (such as your goal, background and available days), your saved training plan and the sessions you log (including how you felt and anything you note, such as pain) and the run details the app shows you are sent to our coaching service. When you ask for a form read, your video is stored privately for that read and still frames from it are sampled. Those still frames are kept privately with the read so you can see what the coach saw: only you can open them, and they are deleted with the read or with your account. Your questions, that context and the frames are sent to Anthropic, which provides the AI model behind Speed IQ, to produce the answer. Your email address, mobile number and date of birth are not sent. We do not use your Speed IQ data for advertising.

    Your coach chat is stored privately with your account so you can come back to it. You can clear the whole conversation at any time with Clear chat in Ask Coach. Deleting your account removes your coach chat, your Speed IQ answers, form read videos and the still frames kept with your reads. Speed IQ is coaching information, not medical advice.

    Live broadcast chat

    During a live broadcast, signed in runners can comment below the video. A comment shows your name, handle and photo to everyone watching, and it is kept with the event's broadcast. Officials can remove comments, pause the chat and briefly mute a runner, and you can report a comment. Comments from someone you blocked, or who blocked you, are not shown to you. Deleting your account erases your comments. Watching does not require an account.

    Where it lives

    Your account, Community data and files are stored with Google Firebase and Google Cloud. Entry videos stay private to authorized officials. Community media uses a separate protected storage area, and the app checks access before serving it. Expo processes device push tokens and notification delivery. Map tiles and place searches use OpenStreetMap based services, including CARTO and Photon. Those services receive the requests needed to display maps and search for places. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

    Crash reporting

    To find and fix bugs, the app sends crash and error reports to Sentry, an error monitoring service. A report holds the crash details, such as your device model, operating system version, app version and the error itself. Names and email addresses are removed before a report is sent. We do not record your screen or your session, and we use these reports only to fix bugs.

    Email

    We send account email (password resets and a confirmation when you create an account) and entry decisions (accepted, waitlist, declined). We do not send marketing email.

    Your choices

  • Edit. You can change your profile details in the app at any time.
  • Delete. Open Settings in the app and tap Delete my account. That removes your sign in, your profile, your photo, and any entry still under review, along with its video. An entry already accepted into a field keeps only your name, division and time, because the event record depends on them, and its contact details and video are erased. Public results from completed events remain part of the event record. You can also email us and we will do it for you.
  • Camera, photos and location. You choose when to record a training run, update your picture, or share media with Community. Community photo and video uploads are encoded again to remove embedded location metadata. Location permission is requested when you tap Near me or choose to find your location on the map. Once you allow it, the app checks your approximate location while you are using Community (when it opens, when you come back to it and every few minutes) to show events near you; it never tracks you in the background and your location is never shown to other runners. A location or meeting pin is shared with a group, event or club only when you choose to post it. Place search and reverse lookup send your query, or your approximate coordinates, to the search service. If you add an event to your calendar, the app asks for calendar access and only adds that event. When you record a video, the microphone may record its sound. You can decline location, camera or photo permissions and use the other app features.

    • Community choices. You can turn Let runners find me on or off, choose who can message you, and update social links and notification settings, block people, leave conversations and remove content where those controls are offered. Removing Community data removes your Community profile and connections without deleting your Line It Up account. Transfer ownership and close hosted sessions first. Deleting your Line It Up account also triggers Community cleanup. Provider recovery copies and moderation records may remain after a deletion.

    Notifications. Event joins, updates, reminders, invitations and messages appear in the app. Phone alerts depend on your device permission, app preferences and delivery availability. Community lock screen alerts use brief, generic text; open the app to view private details.

    Age

    Line It Up accounts are for people 13 and up. The People’s 40 event itself is for adults 18 and over, so an account in the 13 to 17 group cannot register for it.

    When you create an account we ask for your birth month and year. We keep only your age group from that answer (13 to 17, or 18 and over), never the month or year. For an account in the 13 to 17 group we also keep the date it moves to 18 and over, so that change happens on its own. If the answer shows someone under 13, no account is created and nothing from the answer is kept.

    We do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 13. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it along with its data. A parent or guardian who believes this has happened can email info@lineitup40.com.

    Runners 13 to 17 can use training, the Board, clubs and crew chat. Direct messages, including private groups, are off for them: they cannot send or receive message requests or messages, and nobody can start one with them. Their Community profile starts hidden from runners who are not their friends or in their crews, and only they can turn on Let runners find me.

    Accounts made before we asked this question count as 18 and over.

    Changes

    If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and the date above.
